Mediabee
List Planner Overview

Introduction

Many people make to-do lists when they want to get things done.  With the Mediabee application, you can make to-do lists in one of two ways:
  • Using the Memo Pad to create an ad-hoc (spur-of-the-moment) to-do list, which goes on your Day Planner. This is a great short-term planning tool - use it to get things done today or in the next few days.
  • If you're looking to create a more long-term list, use the List Planner to create a set of related to-do entries.

The List Planner is a great tool for the following reasons:
  • Make a todo-list for yourself and others; automatically delegate entries to others' calendars.
  • Create a list of related calendar entries - like a school lunch menu, for example.
  • Keep track of project-related items by project
  • Subscribe to an available calendar
  • Publish your own calendars
  • Make our todo-lists your own - for example, building a deck, planning your garden, etc.

Making a List

To make a list with the List Planner, select List Planner/New from the menu and get to the following screen:

Type your entries in the same shorthand notation discussed elsewhere.

The example shows a list called Home Chores. The + sign in front of each entry in this list indicates that this is a checklist item that should be tracked for completion.

Once you've done adding the entries, click on Save Changes and the list will be created.

Managing Lists

The List Planner is really a powerful way to organize the various calendars that impact your life and work.  Unlike traditional software calendaring tools that put the onus on the user to choose a "category" for an entry that is made into the calendar, Mediabee allows the user to work with this information in the way they normally deal with it.

So, for example, you could create a list that contains all the entries relating to your child's homework schedule, school calendar, or lunch menu.  With the short-hand notation, these lists are almost like plain-text lists, represented in the way that you'd normally see them written in a school notice, for example.

This method offers the following advantages:
  • It is close to real-life ways of dealing with the information, making it really easy to transcribe the information from paper.
  • Once you create such a list, you can easily share that information with one or more of your friends or even the public-at-large.
Select List Planner/Lists from the menu to see a catalog of lists that you maintain. An example is shown below:

Sharing Lists Publicly

The List Planner is a powerful tool for community and team leaders like club organizers, soccer coaches.  It offers one of the simplest ways to share club or team calendars. The most powerful aspect is that changes made to published calendars automatically update the calendars of team members who subscribe to it.

To publicly share a list you've created, enter a Publisher ID (choose any ID you want) and click on Share List Publicly (seen below).

You will see a confirmation screen (seen below) asking you to select the level of sharing (which can be at a Community, Region, State, or National level).  Click on Confirm Sharing and that's it - you've just published a list.  Now anyone else can find and subscribe to it.

Sharing Lists Privately

If you want to share your lists privately,  click on the Share List with Group button. The application will present you with the following screen so you can choose who you want to share the list with.

You can manually type in email addresses of people you want to share the list with, or, you can choose names from your address book by typing in their names into the Search: field.

You can name one or more of the people you share the list with as co-publishers.  This is a great way to share a club or team calendar!
